Position: Senior Director of Leadership Giving Programs
Reports to: Chief Development Officer

Facing History’s new strategic plan calls for a significant scaling of impact over the next 5 years. The Senior Director, Leadership Giving Programs, reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer, will join a world-class Development operation and build programs to serve the organization. The successful candidate will have a track record of helping organizations raise significant revenue, understanding how holistic Development programming can drive revenue, making data-driven decisions, and partnering with cross-functional colleagues and external volunteers to bring complex Development systems and programs to life.
Facing History’s five-year strategic plan requires $150 million in financial support. The Senior Director, Leadership Giving Programs will be responsible for the creation and management of programs that will drive fundraising success, provide a best in class donor experience, retain major gifts ($10K+) and leadership ($1K+) supporters, and inspire staff throughout the organization to realize their potential in fundraising and volunteer management. Each of these programs will directly support the organization’s five-year fundraising aims and they will also serve the organization for decades to come.
Specific Duties and Accountabilities Include:
Develop and oversee all individual giving programs
· Major and Leadership Giving Societies
· Planned Giving
· Direct Marketing
Manage the prospect research function
In partnership with the Senior Director of Regional Development, design training programs in fundraising, volunteer management, and the ecosystem of education reform for Development staff, volunteers, and colleagues from other functional areas
Develop and manage staff recognition programs
In partnership with the Chief Development Officer, manage a portfolio of principal gift prospects

- Master’s in related field (or equivalent life/work experience) preferred with 7-10 years relevant work experience
- Change management: experience leading a successful effort to significantly upgrade fundraising systems and programs in an organization
- An understanding of organizational systems and the ability to drive a point of view at the executive level
- Able to move nimbly across all departments and functions
- Ability to lead and grow teams, inspiring them to success
- The ability to evaluate competencies of staff and to define what professional development may be needed
- Strong communication skills: being persuasive, adaptable, and visionary
