“An Interview With World Trade Center Memorial Juror James Young.” Architectural Record 21 January 2004. In an interview published in the Architectural Record in January 2004, James Young, Professor and Chair of the Department of Judaic & Near Eastern Studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, cites the reasons for the recent selection of “Reflecting Absence” as the winner of the World Trade Center Memorial competition. He explains what the logic of the memorial will be, even as it is meant to “accommodate its own evolving meaning over time.”
The Lower Manhattan Development CorporationThe Lower Manhattan Development Corporation was formed in the aftermath of September 11th. Its goal is to revitalize downtown Manhattan, rebuild the World Trade Center site, and supervise the creation of a permanent memorial. The LMDC selected architect Daniel Libeskind to plan the sixteen-acre site, which will include a 1,776-ft-tall icon tower, a memorial garden, room for commercial space and Michael Arad’s World Trade Center memorial.
