THIS EVENT IS AT CAPACITY.
A partnership between the 9/11 Tribute Center and Facing History and Ourselves.
In a Facing History and Ourselves classroom, students often wrestle with difficult, tragic moments in history – moments where individuals make choices that inspire us and trouble us. How do communities choose to remember these tragedies? What purpose does public memory serve? By focusing on the example of the 9/11 attacks, this workshop will explore how Facing History educators can bring issues of memory and memorials into their classrooms and connect these themes and ideas to Facing History content. We will start the day at the 9/11 Tribute Center to see, hear, and experience the personal stories of 9/11. Five immersive environments provide first-person perspective through videos, artifacts, and photos. We will then visit the 9/11 Memorial with Tribute Center guides, who will share their own stories from that day.
All attendees will receive classroom resources from both the 9/11 Tribute Center and Facing History and Ourselves.
$20 registration fee to the 9/11 Tribute Center covers the cost of the exhibition and memorial site tours, resources, and a light breakfast.
